Leadership You Can Trust
Hello, I'm Dr. Gary Miller
I was born & raised in a working-class family. I spent 36 years as a cardiologist in Southside Virginia. In that time I brought the first open heart bypass program to Southside, founded Cardiology Consultants of Danville, and am STILL actively saving lives at Danville's SOVAH Health hospital.
17 years ago, I was elected to Danville City Council member. Our city looked very different then. Dan River Mills had just closed, and my cardiology office was flooded with people who needed a job as much as they needed treatment. Since then, I've revitalized downtown Danville's river district, served 2 terms as Vice Mayor, secured new fire and police stations, and made massive investments in public education and community centers, especially Danville's public parks.
Outside of politics, I have been a soccer coach, a small-business owner, and an aspiring dancer!

Public service runs deep in my family, as does my passion for Danville. I’m asking for your vote because I believe in a future where every family has access to good-paying jobs, strong schools, and safe communities. And with decades of experience, I know how to find real solutions and deliver results. Danville deserves proven compassionate leadership that listens, fights, and gets things done.
My Priorities
Affordable Housing
Our city's growth has outpaced our housing stock. We need to build more multi-family units, limit the spread of rental properties, and invest in shelters for our most vulnerable.
Safe Communities
As a doctor, I have a professional relationship with our first responders. I've invested in new stations and equipment for our police and fire fighters. They know I will have their backs.
Good-paying Jobs
Anyone working full time should be able to make ends meet, but the cost of living is too high! I have worked tirelessly to bring new industries to Danville, and the high-paying jobs that come with them.
Lower Costs for Working Families
Whether it means cutting unnecessary taxes or working through the utility commission to help out people in Danville, I am committed to lowering costs for working families.
Strong Public Schools
Our children deserve well-funded schools. Teachers deserve smaller class sizes and an increase in pay. I've overseen renovations at many of our city schools, and I will continue to invest in education.
Abolish the Grocery Tax
The Grocery Tax has got to go. Families are paying more while restaurants are struggling and farmers are getting squeezed.
